Hello, and thank you for clicking on my article
This is just a short post talking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Infinity Wards decision to remove dedicated servers, and how much of an impact that will have on the game and its
Gaming Communities. Luckily, if you are an xbox 360 or PS3 (Playstation 3) user, this will not affect you, but please give it a read anyway, it is your game we are talking about!
So, as many of you may know Infinity Ward chose not to add the option to have dedicated servers for the PC version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. This decision outraged a large amount of players who play Modern Warfare 2 on the PC, simply because they were removing one of the main features that makes PC gaming stand out from console gaming, and that is the ability to have Online Communities and to be able to play the game at a competitive level. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the most popular game to date (based on early sales), and should be at the forefront of online gaming, but sadly this will not be the situation without the ability to have communities based around dedicated servers, and the ability to play the game at a competitive level. At this point, a lot of people will be asking "Why is it so important to have a community based around a game?". Well, the most obvious reason is so people have a place to be able to discuss things related to the subject, but people can still do that. There are still plenty of CoD: Modern Warfare 2 communities in the form of forums, but I am referring to a different section of "community gaming". In all other games, (including Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) people have the ability to connect to a server, where they know a lot of nice friendly people play and have an enjoyable game of whatever they are playing. But with the new system in Modern Warfare 2, the "Matchmaker System", you get stuck in a random lobby, with random players, and then have to play with a high ping. Your free will has been taken away.
And with communities comes competitive playing, where you create a team to play against other teams for prizes. This was a big part of the original Modern Warfare, with a large amount of leagues, but that cannot happen without dedicated servers.
Infinity Ward's decision to remove dedicated servers from the game (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) was in my mind extremely stupid. They gain nothing from it, but risk losing everything. The only reason i can see them doing it is to try and force people to play it on the Xbox 360 or the PS3 (Playstation 3) There are a few petitions, and a few forum communities being built, that are trying to keep the community side of the game alive, and to convince Infinity Ward to bring back dedicated servers. If you are a fan of Call of Duty 4, then I have no doubt that you want the same system put back in to Modern Warfare 2.
If you are looking for a community to be a part of, or at least show your support to our cause, you can help by either going over to
